| Make this in the autumn, when you can go out blackberrying and probably pick up some windfall apples for nothing. |
Ingredients
4 medium Apple
175 g Blackberries
115 g Flour, Wheat, White, Plain
1 teaspoons (as purchased) Cinnamon, Ground
55 g The Co-Operative Healthy Living Oatmeal, Quick Cook, Raw
85 g Sugar, Caster
85 g Butter, Half Fat
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 5/190°C/375°F. Peel and quarter the apples. Remove the core and cut into 1 cm (½-inch) chunks.
- Rinse the blackberries and put them in the bottom of an ovenproof dish. Add the apple chunks and mix together gently. Add 4 tablespoons of water.
- Put the flour, cinnamon and oats or oatmeal in a bowl.
- Rub in the butter, until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar. (The crumble can also be made in a food processor or in an electric food mixer.)
- Spoon the crumble over the fruit and tidy the edges of the dish.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until the crumble is golden brown on top. By this time, the fruit should also be cooked but still have some 'bite'
Chef Tips- Substitute raspberries if you cannot locate any blackberries.
