So, what exactly is a BMI?

You’ve probably heard the term ‘BMI’ that stands for Body Mass Index, which is a system that uses your current weight, age, height and any health risks to calculate your healthiest weight range. Because it factors in all that information, it’s the most accurate way to determine whether you’re overweight or obese – and whether you should be taking the next steps to get a little bit healthier.

What is a healthy weight range?

You want to aim for a BMI between 20 and 25 – that’s the healthy weight sweet spot! A BMI below 20 is considered underweight, while BMIs between 25-30 are considered overweight, and a BMI over 30 is considered obese.

If you are measuring in an overweight or obese range, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. At Weight Watchers, we know how upsetting it can be to be labelled ‘overweight’ or ‘obese’, which is why we’ve developed our weight loss plans that will help you turn things around. There’s no time like the present to get started: with Weight Watchers, you’ll be able to follow a simple, healthy eating plan that still allows you to eat the foods you love while losing weight at a slow and steady (and permanent!) pace. This is no quick miracle fix – Weight Watchers is a plan that works, and it will keep working for life.
